Credit Flow
Carries borrower and facility data through spreading, covenants, monitoring, exceptions, approvals, and committee review.
The operational problem
Borrower information arrived through financial statements, spreadsheets, credit files, servicing records, legal documents, and analyst notes. Account labels and period definitions changed across borrowers, while adjustments were embedded directly in spreading workbooks. Covenant terms sat in documents, test results lived in separate trackers, and exceptions traveled through email. Committee materials were rebuilt for each review cycle, creating variable definitions and forcing reviewers to trace source evidence manually. The institution needed a durable borrower and facility record that carried the same financial, covenant, exception, and approval structure across analysts and reporting periods.
How it was engineered
Markets IQ designed reference objects for borrowers, facilities, obligations, statements, accounts, adjustments, covenants, tests, exceptions, decisions, and approvals. The gateway preserves submitted files, extracts candidate fields, and records source location and ingestion context. A versioned mapping layer translates borrower account labels into the institution’s spreading taxonomy. Validation tests balance-sheet integrity, period alignment, units, sign conventions, and mapping completeness before ratios are calculated. Reported figures remain intact. Analyst adjustments are stored as attributed overlays with rationale and approval state. Covenant clauses become parameterized expressions tied to defined financial fields and testing dates. Committee packages reference frozen workflow snapshots instead of copied values. Controlled extensions handle borrower-specific terms, accepting added configuration to preserve consistency across analysts, periods, and portfolios.
What it enables
The institution can ingest borrower records, produce repeatable spreads, calculate ratios from approved definitions, and test covenants against the correct periods. Analysts can carry forward prior mappings while preserving new source evidence and adjustments. Credit committees can review the current request, historical movements, covenant status, exceptions, rationale, and approvals from a single controlled workflow record.
